Vietnamese Noodles Listed Among Asia's Top 100 Noodle Dishes
The world-famous food website TasteAtlas has annouced a list of Asia's 100 best noodle dishes, featuring many Vietnamese noodle soups and stir-fries. Let’s find out what are those dishes you should try when arrive to Vietnam.
Pho Tai Chin (Beef Noodle Soup with Rare Steak)
Ranked at 5, this popular version of pho features rare steak and well-done flank beef. Other beef pho variants like pho with assorted beef parts also made the list at 11. There are also pho stir-fry and dry pho versions.
Bun Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork with Rice Vermicelli)
A Southern Vietnamese dish combining grilled marinated pork with rice vermicelli, greens, and herbs. The ingredients are placed over the noodle bowl and paired with a dipping sauce of fish sauce, lime, water, and sugar.
Bun Bo Nam Bo (Southern Vietnamese Beef Noodle)
A fairly common noodle dish with two main components: rice vermicelli and beef stir-fry, along with herbs, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, bean sprouts and roasted peanuts.
Bun Cha
This features a combination of grilled pork, pork patties, broth, rice vermicelli and plenty of greens like laksa leaf, lettuce, mint and morning glory. Though bun cha is found across Vietnam, the Hanoian version gets high marks. It rose to international fame in 2016 when Anthony Bourdain shared it with former US President Barack Obama on his show Parts Unknown.
Mi Quang (Quang Style Noodles)
This classic Vietnamese dish combines golden noodles with a small amount of meaty broth, fresh veggies like banana blossom, lettuce, chives, green onions, and herbs. It's highly versatile, often paired with beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, boiled egg, peanuts. Originally from Quang Nam province, mi quang is now beloved nationwide.
Hu Tieu Nam Vang (Phnom Penh Noodles)
A popular Vietnamese street food with Cambodian origins, named after Phnom Penh. The recipe has been adapted to suit Vietnamese tastes. The broth must be clear and flavorful, simmered from pork bones, pork, and dried squid.
Cao Lau
A signature dish of Hoi An consisting of noodles made from local rice and well water. Along with the noodles, cao lau features sliced roasted pork, greens, bean sprouts and just a bit of flavorful broth. Its origins are murky, some believe it was inspired by Chinese cuisine while others say it emulates Japanese soba traditions. Either way, cao lau remains a unique tasty dish found only in Hoi An.
