Tam Coc Bich Dong: A Journey through Scenic Paradise of Vietnam

Tam Coc Bich Dong is located in a cave complex in Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, which has been ranked by UNESCO as a world heritage site. This area includes limestone cave systems with attractive scenery. At the same time, it also contains historical relics from the Tran dynasty.

1. The best time to visit

Each season has a particular atmosphere; still, to fully appreciate a boat trip, individuals should limit their travel during the wet season. A few notes on the best time to explore Tam Coc are:

February through March: At this time of year, the weather is  quite pleasant, cool, with little rain, making it ideal for appreciating the view and immersing yourself in nature's beauty. Additionally, some traditional festivities will be hosted here.

May to the end of June: This is the ripe rice season; the bright yellow rice fields combine with the blue river, giving a tranquil beauty that is hard to see anywhere else.

June and July are also months when the lotus fields are in full bloom, which provides a perfect time to explore landscapes and capture lovely photographs.

2. Unmissable stops in Tam Coc Bich Dong

Three cave complex in Tam Coc

Tam Coc refers to "three caves," which include Ca Cave, Hai Cave, and Ba Cave. These caves have retained their natural charm. The gentle river curves as if embracing the caves in its heart and forms silk ribbons piercing through the mountains.

If you want to visit Tam Coc, you will travel from the central wharf with rustic wooden boats rowed by the local people. On the boat, while enjoying the scenery, everyone will be introduced by the boatman to the passing point. Running through a large mountain peak, the air here is extremely cool, and the eye-catching stalactites are a special highlight.

Some ancient stories told by native people also make your trip more interesting. Total tour time will be about 2 hours, this time is enough for everyone to freely admire the scenery on the banks of the poetic Ngo Dong River.

Thai Vi Temple

On the way to visit Tam Coc, people will visit Thai Vi Temple. The temple in the O Lam forest is famous as a sacred temple worshiping the Tran kings. The temple has a prime location, located on the right side of Ngo Giang river, on the left is Coi Linh mountain. The harmony between the mountain, forest and river landscape creates an poetic beauty of the Tam Coc Bich Dong.

Bich Dong Pagoda

This is also a large-scale pagoda built in the Le Dynasty on the top of a mountain. Inside the pagoda, there are tower tombs of monks who built the pagoda, and a large bell cast during the reign of King Le Thai To. The pagoda has ancient architecture, layers of moss clinging to the cliffs and pagoda roof as part of the timestamp of this place.

Thien Huong Cave

Thien Huong Cave is located halfway up Dong Vo mountain on the road from Thanh wharf to Thai Vi. This is also a place tourists cannot miss if they come to Tam Coc Bich Dong.. The dome at the top of the cave is like a giant bell, enclosing the shrine of Tran Thi Dung ,combined with exquisitely carved ancient architecture. This is a destination that not only attracts tourists because of its natural beauty but is also a place that marks historical and cultural values.
