Good news for international tourists visiting Vietnam with a new “boost” in visa policy - visa exemptions under the Tourism Development Stimulus Program for citizens of 12 countries. Officially effective from August 15, 2025.

12 More Countries Granted Visa Exemption to Enter Vietnam from August 15, 2025

List of 12 Countries Granted Visa Exemption When Traveling to Vietnam

Vietnam has just issued Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP on visa exemption under the Tourism Development Stimulus Program for citizens of 12 countries, including: the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Slovenia, and the Swiss Confederation.

According to the Resolution, citizens of these countries are exempt from visas when entering Vietnam for tourism purposes, regardless of passport type, with a maximum temporary stay of 45 days from the date of entry, provided they fully meet the requirements prescribed by Vietnamese law.

This visa exemption policy is applied from August 15, 2025, to the end of August 14, 2028, under the Tourism Development Stimulus Program.

Previously, the Government issued Resolution No. 44 on visa exemption for citizens of the following countries: Germany, the French Republic, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Thus, up to now, Vietnam has unilaterally granted visa exemption to citizens of 24 countries.

Fixed-Term Visa Exemption for Foreigners in Special Categories

Alongside visa exemption under the Tourism Development Stimulus Program for citizens of 12 countries, the Government of Vietnam has also issued Decree No. 221/2025/NĐ-CP stipulating fixed-term visa exemption for foreigners in special categories, including:

Guests invited by the General Secretary, the State President, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the Standing Committee of the Secretariat, the Vice State President, the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, the Deputy Prime Ministers, the President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the State Auditor General, ministers and equivalent positions, provincial party secretaries, municipal party secretaries, chairpersons of provincial/municipal People’s Councils, and chairpersons of provincial/municipal People’s Committees.

Scholars, experts, scientists, professors at universities and research institutes; chief engineers; high-quality human resources in the digital technology industry.

Investors, leaders of corporations, leaders of large enterprises worldwide.

Individuals active in the fields of culture, arts, sports, and tourism who have a positive influence on the public, etc.

The issuance of this Decree is deemed essential to attract foreigners who are talented individuals, high-quality human resources, innovative entrepreneurs, leading experts, and top scientists in prioritized sectors (such as the semiconductor industry, core digital technology, etc.). In addition, it targets leaders, managers, investors, and senior experts from major enterprises, as well as cultural figures, artists, and famous athletes, with the aim of building a dynamic economy capable of global competitiveness.

With these open visa policies, the tourism industry expects to accelerate growth and welcome a large number of international visitors.
