Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 1 | Phong Nha – Doong Village – Hang En

 

07:30–08:00 AM: Pick-up from your accommodation in the Phong Nha area and transfer to the tour meeting point. You will receive a safety briefing, sign the liability waiver, and be provided with all necessary safety equipment.

 

Begin trekking through jungle trails and descend a steep slope to follow the stream leading to Doong Village – the only settlement in the park’s core zone.

 

After around 1.5 hours of hiking and river crossings, arrive at Doong Village, home to an isolated ethnic minority community. Enjoy a local lunch and explore village life before continuing the 3-hour trek to Hang En.

 

Upon arrival at the cave entrance, helmets and headlamps are provided for your climb over large rock formations into the cave. From a rocky viewpoint, you’ll witness the breathtaking view of the underground campsite.

 

After receiving your tent, take a refreshing swim in the nearby emerald cave pool before enjoying a delicious meal prepared right inside the cave.

 

Day 2 | Hang En – Phong Nha

 

After breakfast, trek over the boulders behind the campsite to explore more of the cave’s hidden beauty, admire stunning stalactites and stalagmites, and reach the enormous sandy beach at the back entrance.

 

Be sure to have your camera ready – this is where nature reveals one of its most magical and pristine landscapes.

 

Cross the underground river back to camp for lunch and a short rest. Then begin the return trek along a different route, crossing streams and conquering a steep 450-meter ascent.

 

At the top, cold beverages and a transfer vehicle await to congratulate you on completing this extraordinary Hang En journey.

Physical requirements:

• Hike 25 km through rugged mountain terrain
• 3 km cave exploration
• Elevation gain/loss of 650m
• Numerous stream crossings
• Steep and uneven trails with rocks and gravel

Trekking Experience:

• Must have prior trekking experience
• At least 1 overnight trek OR 2–3 full-day treks on forest/mountain/rocky terrain, covering at least 8km/day with 300m elevation gain.

 

Physical Readiness:

• Participate in endurance activities (e.g., football, cycling, skiing)
• OR
• Engage in regular exercise (walking/running 3–4 times/week, 4–5 km per session)

 

You should be able to:

• Run 5 km in under 50 minutes
• Climb 5 flights of stairs continuously without shortness of breath or dizziness
