Ba Be National Park is spread over five communes in Ba Be district, Bac Kan province. Established in November 1992, it covers an area of up to 7,610 hectares. With over 1,000 plant species and over 80 rare animal species on the protection list, Ba Be National Park is a site that still fully maintains nature's gift. Ba Be Lake
Ba Be Lake is one of Vietnam's largest freshwater lakes. The lake was formed over 200 million years ago as a result of a massive geological event. In 1995, the World Freshwater Lakes Conference in the United States named Ba Be Lake one of the world's 20 exceptional freshwater lakes that must be conserved. Ba Be Lake is made up of three lakes: Pe Leng, Pe Lu, and Pe Lam. The lake is more than 8 kilometers long, 2 kilometers broad at its widest point, has a water surface area of around 500 hectares, and an average depth of 20 metres. Tourists visiting Ba Be Lake will have the opportunity to sit in a boat around the crystal blue lake and see the lovely natural environment.
Ba Goa Island
Ba Goa Island is a tiny island located in the center of Ba Be Lake. The island was constructed by combining and stacking boulders of various sizes. The trees here cover virtually the whole island in green, giving Ba Goa Island the appearance of a green gem in the center of Ba Be Lake. The island is also known for the mythology of Ba Be Lake, which has been passed down by locals since ancient times.
Fairy Pond
Fairy Pond is a tiny lake about 3 hectares large located around 100 metres from Ba Be Lake. The pond is always full of water because underground water circuits link Ba Be Lake with the adjacent caves. Fairy Pond is surrounded by limestone mountains and ancient woods. Ao Tien, like Ba Goa Island, is tied to a mythology that indigenous people have passed down since ancient times.
Dau Dang Waterfall
The Nang River constructed Dau Dang Waterfall, which has a total length of roughly 53m and is located approximately 16 kilometers from Cho Ra town center. The waterfall is divided into three sections: in the first, water pours down from above with great power and is fairly sinuous; in the second, the country separates into two separate streams; and in the third, the water flows easily.
Puong Cave
Puong Cave is part of the Lung Nham limestone complex, a natural marvel. Puong Cave is roughly 300 metres long, more than 30 metres high, and has two ends. The cave developed when the Nang River rushes through the limestone mountain of Lung Nham. Inside the cave, there are towering cliffs and numerous stalactites of all forms and hues, forming an incredible limestone environment. In addition, Phuong Cave is home to 23 distinct bat species.
Hua Ma Cave
Hua Ma Cave is 359 meters above sea level and is located on Co Don Mountain, south of Ba Be Lake and near to the Leng River. The steps along the slope lead to the cave entrance. Hua Ma Cave is almost 700 meters long and contains several shimmering walls and stalactites. The cave contains several stalactites with unusual forms. Hua Ma Cave is currently one of the few natural caves that retains its original, immaculate look.
Tham Phay Cave
Tham Phay Cave, located near Co Don Mountain, is a one-of-a-kind water cave that stretches for 3 to 6 kilometers and reaches heights of up to 40 meters. The cave, which was produced by volcanic eruptions and tectonic action of limestone, remains pure since it is unknown to many people. Tham Phay cave has innumerable stalactites with magnificent formations and is home to a variety of flora and wildlife, including bats and insects. The road to the cave is extremely perilous, and the cave entrance is also disguised under greenery.
Pac Ngoi Village
Pac Ngoi is a Tay ethnic community with stilt dwellings clustered together next to verdant fields, nestled between undulating hillsides and Ba Be Lake. The stilt cottages here are all constructed against the mountain, with entrances that face the lake. Pac Ngoi Village also serves as a repository for Tay traditional values and promotes them to visitors. Visitors to Pac Ngoi village can participate in activities like weaving, crafting traditional musical instruments, and fishing in the river.
What to eat in Ba Be?
Grilled fish and grilled shrimp
Grilled fish and shrimp in Ba Be are delicious, and it is a popular dish among tourists. After being washed and prepped, fish and shrimp will be clamped onto bamboo sticks and cooked on a wooden ladder for around 15 minutes.
Sour shrimp
Shrimp is caught directly from Ba Be Lake and mixed with cooked rice until cooled, then incubated for about 4 to 5 days.
Peng Pha Cake
Peng Pha cake is a traditional dish of the Tay people. In order for the cake to be delicious, the ingredients must be carefully selected and the fire controlled well. The cake is round in shape, the outside is covered with white powder, the inside is soaked in sugar, the taste is just right, not too sweet.
Wormwood cakes
Wormwood cake is made from sticky rice, wormwood leaves, peanut sugar and sesame paste and wrapped in green banana leaves. The cake is dark green and has the flavor of the mountains.
