Duration: 5 days 4 night / Transportation: Car / Departure: Daily

DAY 1: HANOI CITY TOUR (Lunch)

8:00 - 8:30: We will pick-up from your hotel in the Old Quarter or the Opera House for a city tour of Hanoi. In the morning, we will visit:

  • Tran Quoc Pagoda - West Lake: The pagoda is located on an island east of West Lake (Tay Ho district). The pagoda has a history of nearly 1,500 years and it has a hundred-year-old Bodhi tree from India which is regarded as the oldest pagoda in Thang Long, Hanoi. The pagoda's architecture has a harmonious combination of majesty and antiquity, with an elegant landscape amidst the quiet background of a vast lake. It was the Buddhist center of Thang Long citadel during the Ly and Tran dynasties.
  • Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex (including the Mausoleum and the stilt house area) - The place where the great leader lived and worked from 1954 until the last years of his life. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about Uncle Ho's simple life. In addition, You will also be able to visit the One Pillar Pagoda, which is one of Hanoi's four icons.

Note: On Mondays and Fridays, the Mausoleum Management Board will do maintenance on the Mausoleum. Visitors will only be permitted to see the outside of the Mausoleum, then proceed to the stilt home area, the fish pond, and the One Pillar Pagoda.

  • The Museum of Ethnology, which preserves and displays cultural objects from all 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. This is the newest museum, but perhaps one of the most extensive and interesting, not only in Hanoi but also in Vietnam. It includes both indoor and outdoor sections while the inside exhibition offers a variety of information, displays, and activities, the outdoor exhibition sets the museum apart from the rest. There are some houses modeled after the traditional architecture of ethnic minorities, especially those from the Northern and Central Highlands regions.

On the second day, the Ethnology Museum is closed, thus the Women's Museum will be open instead.

Noon: The group has lunch at a restaurant in the Old Quarter area and rests.  After your meal, take a few minutes to walk about and learn the names of Hanoi's 36 streets…

Afternoon: We will visit:

  • The Temple of Literature, Quoc Tu Giam, is considered Vietnam's first university. It is a historic architectural structure that was created on a huge scale in October 1073 and still stands now. The Temple of Literature was constructed to honor Confucius, the founder of Confucianism, and Chu Van An, principal of Quoc Tu Giam, exemplifies the lofty moral concept of Vietnamese education.
  • Visit Hoa Lo Prison, formerly a prison located in Hanoi, Vietnam, also known as Central Prison or, ironically, Hanoi Hilton. It was constructed while Indochina was a vital component of the French Empire. The building was partially dismantled in 1990 and is now used as a museum.
